Thame Para-swimming event ‘a roaring success’

THE first Thame Para-Swimming Event took place at Thame Leisure Centre recently, and, to say it was ‘a roaring success’ would be an understatement!

Happy faces at the Thame Para-swim event

With professional organisation provided by Thame Swimming Club, Swim England Para-Swimming and Thame Leisure Centre, this Thame Lions event attracted disabled children and adults from the immediate area and beyond for an afternoon of fun and competition … all topped off with medals and meeting Invictus Games medallist and war hero Jack Cummings … smiles all round.

This event provided swimmers with a Physical, Visual, Hearing and Intellectual impairment, a taster of para-swimming with the opportunity to race over a short distance. It was also free to enter and there were refreshments during the event provided by Thame & District Lions Club, as well as a buffet afterwards kindly provided by Thame Leisure Centre. Also a big ‘thank you’ went to Thame based Lucy Electric who helped sponsor the event.

As Carolynne Holms-Sharp from Thame Lions said afterwards: “We were overwhelmed and amazed at the support and enthusiasm both before and on the day and are hopefully looking to repeat the event on a yearly basis.”

The Thame Para-Swimming Event was such a massive success that it’s going to be an annual event with the 2019 dates being released soon. Places are limited so, to express an interest in next years event send an email to paraswimming@thameanddistrictlions.org.uk
