THE residents of Thame are to be asked their views on the future of the September fair, which has been held in the town centre for almost a century.
The town council intends to open negotiations with the Showmens Guild to set the conditions for the continuation of the fair beyond 2010/11, but wishes to guage public feeling before it does so.
The fair, which coincides with the Thame Show, has become larger over the years and although many residents say they value its history, culture and tradition, others feel it has become too noisy, attracts anti-social behaviour and disrupts parking and businesses in the town centre.
Following a petition and complaints about excessive noise, pollution and vibration created by the fair, the town council and the Showmen’s Guild did agree several actions to try to dampen the issues of concern which the council has said it feels did improve things last September. See LINK
The Questionaires will be distributed with Thame Town Council’s May News Letter.
