  • 07/12/11……Elijah joy for choir?s oldest singer

THE oldest member of Lord Williams?s Festival Chorus, based in Thame, will be singing for joy on Saturday, when the choir performs Mendelssohn?s oratorio, Elijah, at his request.

Now in his 90s, Eric Gladwin loves the work so much, he specifically asked the choir committee to consider it when they were finalising their programme for 2011. He said: ?In 42 years of choral singing, I regard the full-throated tuneful beauty of Elijah as a pleasure to be shared with all.?

In addition to his keen interest in music, Mr Gladwin regards himself primarily as a philosopher/poet. He has written 580 works, and has three books set to be published next year.

Chair, Claire Humphries, said: ?Although the composer originally wanted ?60 plus bearded altos? to sing the work, our membership is composed of local people across the generations from the Thame area who simply love singing. It?s wonderful to be able to perform a piece that?s been requested by such a stalwart of the choir, and thanks go to our musical director, John Gibbons, and the Ealing Symphony Orchestra for bringing Eric?s request to life.

?We are particularly thrilled to have the outstanding talents of the internationally renowned soloists, Adrian Thompson, Sidonie Winter, Helen Winter and Andrew Jarvis to sing with us.?

Elijah will be performed on Saturday, December 10th, at Thame Leisure Centre, Oxford Road, Thame, OX9 2BB and starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost

  • 01/12/11….Win an Acoustic Guitar!!

YES, it’s that time again. The first Thursday in the month, so it’s First Thursday Music Club’s open Mic night at The Stables, behind The James Figg.

The guitar is a brand new Takamine EG 320 NS Dreadnaught
donated by Vintage and Modern Guitars of Thame.

    Message from the organisers:

One of the great things about the First Thursday Music Club is that it is always on the First Thursday of every month and therefore quite easy to remember. The only slight downside to this is that the December one is always a few weeks away from the big day so it is quite hard to have a Christmas FTMC and stay trendy. However, as those who have been will know, staying trendy is not high on our list of priorities therefore this Thursday will feature our annual nod to the festive season with the GREAT FTMC RAFFLE. Last year a beautiful Yamaha Pacifica was cleanly won and enjoyed by Andrea who was only there to watch the young George (her son) – result Andrea! This year we have gone one better: The Fabulous Phil and Maria from the equally fabulous VINTAGE AND MODERN GUITARS have donated an Takamine Acoustic – a serious piece of kit!! You can do two things to help:

Come down to the Stables behind the James Figg at 8:00ish to enjoy a fine nigh of eclectic musical fun and buy a

  • 16/11/11…. Book now for Cinderella in Thame!

IT’S Panto season again… Oh yes it is! And this year Thame Players are performing the most famous and traditional Pantomime of them all, Cinderella. All the well known elements are there but this is a brand new version.

Prince Charming tries to find true love, the Ugly Sisters try to find new ways of tormenting Cinderella, the Baroness tries to find new ways of spending Baron Hardup’s money, Buttons tries to find new ways of cheering up Cinders and Cameron and Clegg, the Broker’s Men, try to find new ways of getting more money out of the people of Thame. Writer and co-director, Rob Wratten commented, ?The Thame Players panto is always great fun and suitable for all the family, and Cinderella is no exception?

Thame Players pantos often sell out and Cinderella is likely to do so as well, so anyone wanting to enjoy the fun, laughter, unrequited love, romance, singing, dancing, fairy magic and even a striptease by two of the best loved, if not ugliest Dames around, should buy tickets as soon as possible.
