  • Theatre Rings To The Sound Of Music

THAME Players Theatre rang to the ‘sound of music’ recently, when the audience dressed as assorted characters from the film of that name, threw themselves into their roles and sang along to all the well-known songs from the cinema classic.
The evening, organised by Thame Cinema 4 All, was supported by people of all ages, from younger children dressed as cats and snowflakes, (with reference to the rousing ‘These are a few of my favourite things’), to grown up men dressed as Captain Von Trapp in hats with feathers and shorts. One of TC4A’s committee members turned out in a splendid smoking jacket and cravat and a Haddenham resident wore his father’s Naval cap. Two glamourous Countesses, complete with long cigarette holders, several Marias in big hats (one carrying an authentic carpet bag), and a human brown paper package (minus the string)which rustled in the background, all contributed to a very entertaining evening.
All the money raised from the evening went to a centre for the homeless in Oxford.

  • Thame Cinema Club Latest

ROBERT Perkins had the audience rocking in their seats at Thame Cinema 4 All recently, when he spoke about his Hollywood experiences, as star and co-writer of “Close Encounter”.
From his successful switch to Business Class on the plane when flying out, to his naive delight in eating in restaurants with the stars, the audience were taken into Robert’s confidence and had a real insider’s view of life as a film maker in Hollywood. Cathy Gaulter Carter and Graham and Cecilia Fry enjoyed meeting him afterwards and hearing more of his anecdotes. His co-writer Eugene Grobler and Jeremy Palmer, the technical manager of the cinema club, discussed the technical details of projecting from a DVD a film that had been shot on a full size movie camera.

The cinema club is now preparing for its Christmas extravaganza of The Sound of Music. This popular family favourite will be shown on Friday, 23 December at 7.00, doors open 6.30. Unusually tickets are available ahead of time, at

For the third time in five years, the Music Service received a Diploma of Merit from the National Music Council at the annual LEA Music Awards.
The award to the Oxfordshire County Council-run service was presented last week by Howard Goodall, who composed among other things, the theme music for BBC’s ‘Black Adder’ series and is himself a former member of the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra.

The Music Service was praised for its range of music and the way it reaches out to people of all ages in the county.

Dick Hallam, who heads the Oxfordshire County Music Service, and assistant head Liz Stock, attended the awards ceremony at the British Phonographic Industry Building in London

Dick said: ?It was very gratifying to accept the award on behalf of all our staff ? what a fantastic early Christmas present – and to hear the words of praise for the service from the awards panel.

?The panel was particularly interested to hear that we have the equivalent of a school governing body, a group of people who reflect the diversity of the activities we offer and the communities we serve. It means a wide range of perspectives are represented and that people feel a sense of ownership.?
