Man Threatened With Knife In Road Rage Attack
POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was threatened with a knife and forced to drive his car towards Waterstock, Oxfordshire, today (1/11).
At around 5.45am the 20-year-old man was travelling along the A40 from Headington when he drove his yellow Rover MGZR into a lay-by near Forest Hill. As he stopped a man got into the car with a knife and ordered him to drive.
The man forced the driver to turn off at the Thame junction and head towards Tiddington. When they reached the village he then ordered him to turn around and drive towards Waterstock. At the entrance to Waterstock village, off the A418, the driver was forced out of the car where the offender put a T-Shirt in the entry of the fuel tank and set it alight. The offender then ran away into a waiting car which had pulled up behind them.
The man has a dark complexion, is around 6ft, of large build, with a moustache, stubble and black short hair. He was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.
PC Steve Anderson, based at Thame police station, said: ?This was a very frightening incident that the driver went through.
?I appeal to anyone who may have witnessed two men in a Rover with the word ?racing? in black along both sides of the car, driving erratically, or knows who was involved in the incident to please contact police.?
Anyone with information about the incident that could assist police inquiries is urged to contact PC Anderson at Thame police station, via 0845 8 505 505. If you don?t want to speak to police and don?t want to leave your name, please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. -

Support For Thame Police
EXTRA support has arrived to combat low level crime and disorder in Thame.
Two new police community support officers (PCSOs) will be out on the streets from November, 3 to complement the work of police officers by focusing predominantly on lower level crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour, freeing up time for uniformed officers to concentrate on tackling the most serious crimes.
Their appointment has been made possible thanks to joint funding between Thames Valley Police, South Oxfordshire District Council and the Home Office. A further three PCSOs will be joining the area at the end of November.
Diane Jackson, aged 38, will be one of the PCSOs based in Thame. She decided to join Thames Valley Police after speaking to an existing PCSO while she was working in a shop in the town.
She said: ?I was looking for a career change but couldn?t decide what I should be doing. While I was working in Woolworths two PCSOs came into the shop to introduce themselves. I got talking to them about their role and what it entailed and thought it sounded like the perfect job for me, so I applied.?
Zoe Eele, aged 23, will also be based at Thame. She worked for Unique Pub Company and also as a prison officer at Spring Hill Prison at weekends.
PCSOs have been part of Southern Oxfordshire?s for a year and since they began they have assisted with major events, taken part in community safety events and been involved with tackling anti-social behaviour.
Thames Valley Police has also bid for Government funding for a further 193 PCSOs. The results of the bid should be known by the end of November. The Force continues to recruit for PCSOs, anyone interested in applying should look at the Force website www.thamesvalley.police.uk or call the PCSO Recruitment hot-line number on 01865 846829. -
Labour Candidate Condemns Remarks by Boris (Contributed by Henry Blythe)
KALEEM Saeed, who has been chosen as Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Henley Constituency, said last night that the contempt for the people of Liverpool shown by Boris Johnson in last week’s Spectator is not shared in Henley, which has great sympathy for the Bigley family.
Trying to combine two jobs, as editor of the spectator and representative of a constituency is likely to bring one or the other into disrepute, and Boris should seriously consider which one he really wishes to do.
Meanwhile he should also apologise to Henley. -
Haddenham History Forum
HADDENHAM Local History Forum held a planning meeting on October 20. Following the great success of the lecture on the Black Death by Julian Hunt on September 30, there will be another talk on November 24 (8pm) when George Lamb will speak about the Civil War in Bucks. On December 1, Forum members will consider an outline of Haddenham history and look at evidence on Haddenham buildings, including listed buildings. Everyone will be welcome at these meetings.
The Forum also plans to develop a library of documents, provide items for the quarterly Haddenham Village News and prepare a leaflet for local schools. The eventual aim is to write an official history of the parish. For further information call the Forum’s chairman, Stephen Sharp, on 290597. -
Pizza and Politics Go Down Well – Contributed by Chris Savory
OVER 40 people enjoyed an evening of Pizza and Politics with Evan Harris M.P. at the Thame’s Barns centre on Friday 15th October. Arriving in time to dig into a large slice of Pizza from the Pizza House, Evan Harris enjoyed meeting local supporters.
He then gave a engaging and insightful outline of Liberal Democrat policy including an explanation of their plans to replace the unpopular Council Tax with a fairer Local Income Tax. A question from the floor from David Laver, Oxfordshire County Councillor, about housing issues in the South East, led to a lively discussion of the issue. “It was so refreshing to hear a politician speak his mind openly and honestly, and who also made me laugh.” commented Karen Dauncey, who had come along as an interested sceptic. -
Get Knitting!
Dear Editor
The idea of Thame going for a record woolly scarf is a wonderful one but since the publication of the plan in the last edition of the Thame Gazette the Christmas Committee has asked me to clarify the knitting details of the project.
1. Double knitting wool should be used – preferably wool or any other natural fibre rather than synthetic blends.
2. Knitters should use size 8 (4mm) needles.
3. Knitters should cast on 70 stitches.
4. Knit exclusively in garter stitch thus allowing any standard of knitter to lend a hand.If everyone who wants to partake in the great project follows these simple guidelines then the scarf should end up a uniform size and texture throughout.
