FOLLOWING concerns expressed by Thame’s Traffic Advisory Committee, the 50mph speed limit along part of Thame’s Eastern Bypass is to be reviewed.
For sometime, members of the committee have been concerned about the dangers of traffic moving onto the bypass from Cromwell Avenue, where there have been several minor accidents and near-misses.
The County Council’s Speed Limit Review Group have expressed the view that they think it reasonable that the speed limit between the Kingsey Road round-about to the A418 Aylesbury Road round-about should be reduced to 40mph and subject to budget available, are to consider an amendment to the current Traffic Regulation Order.
Oxfordshire County Council’s Director of Environment and Economy, Peter Ronald, pointed out to the committee at their meeting on January 18, that reducing the speed limit too much could have the effect of dissuading drivers to use the by-pass and to travel through the town.
