Warning After Burglars Steal Vehicles
HOUSEHOLDERS in the Thames Valley are being warned to keep the keys to their vehicles safe at night following three burglaries in the area.
Burglars have broken into these properties in the last couple of weeks, sometimes gaining entry through UPVC doors that have not been double locked at night and taken the keys to vehicles and driven them off.
Although none of these latest offences has been carried out Thame specifically, the warning is a general one for the whole area and Thame has been hit in the past.ADVICE – In order to fully engage the locking system, always make sure you use the key to double lock it. This applies when you leave the house and when you lock up for the night before you go to bed.
Pushing the handle up once you have closed the door is not enough because uPVC doors do not have a chubb-style lock; it is absolutely vital that you use the key inside, or outside, to turn the key twice. The handle must be lifted and the key turned in order to complete the double lock. If in doubt, contact the manufacturers for more information.
Whether you share a house with family or friends, please make sure you make everyone aware that external doors must be double locked whether you are at home at night or out for the day.
Burglars are usually opportunistic and will hone in on an unlocked back door or open window. Dont make it easy for them.

Thame Pubs Pass The Test
PUBS in Thame have been tested to see if they would serve alcohol to underage drinkers, and they refused to serve those who looked underage.
A multi agency operation involving police, South Oxfordshire District Council and Trading Standards, took place to ensure pubs and off-licences across South Oxfordshire were not selling alcohol to under 18s.
Both he Black Horse and Jimmy Figgs in Thame, passed the test which involved 14 to 16-year-olds who went into the premises and asked to be served alcohol. The licensees were not pre-warned but both insisted that ID was shown and refused to serve them any alcohol.Sgt Martin Jubb said: “We were very pleased with the outcome of this operation and I praise the pubs named, which passed the test with flying colours. It shows that Thame licensees are acting responsibly and are on board with us to help keep Thame a safe and pleasant place to go out in.
“We are working hard with our partners to keep Thame safe and this operation is one way of clamping down on underage drinking and the associated issues that go with it.
“Four out of six pubs in Didcot and Wallingford failed the test purchasing which shows that the two Thame pubs stand out as being responsible and well run establishments.
“Quite apart from the health aspects of underage drinking, the results can cause problems for everyone else including vandalism and intimidation. A small minority of underage drinkers can have a serious impact on the rest of the community and we will continue to run these operations across South Oxfordshire and in Thame to ensure licensees continue to refuse underage drinkers.
“I urge parents to ensure that they to not let their teenagers take alcohol from the house. If under 18?s cannot get hold of alcohol then the associated problems will be prevented.
“I encourage licensees in Thame to keep up the good work and ?think 21?; if they look under 21 then ask for ID.”NB Thame police are currently mobilising more patrols on Friday and Saturday nights, when most of the problems associated with alcohol consumption happen in the town centre.
